The other day my friend Lisa commented on the fact that Design is everywhere (which made my heart all warm and fuzzy inside).
Its in the clothes we wear, the buildings we work in, the websites we frequent, in the magazines we read, the books we buy..
Its EVERYWHERE.
And as a visual person, that makes me super happy:)

The dress I'm wearing today is 100% recycled, so not only is it MEGA awesome and cute but its doing the world some good.

Kudos to Urban.
I love that store.
And on THAT note, today I received an email from the Good50x70 Social Communication Project and they are ready to release this years creative brief along with all the participating partners, which I have been waiting ALL semester for.

I decided to do an awareness poster for WWF that eventually turned into a series that I am quite proud of.
(sidenote: I LOVE penguins and animals so any chance to speak on their behalf, I totally jump on)Heres a rundown for this year:
The Social Communication Project – 4th Edition Associazione Culturale Good Design is proud to announce the 2010 edition of the international social poster competition organized to support the causes addressed by: Amnesty International, Amref, Emergency, Greenpeace, Libera - Associations, names and numbers against mafias, Lila and WWF.
This year the contest will be confronting seven new issues with a new entry among the charities:Libera, committed to the education on democratic lawfulness.
Amnesty International joined us once again addressing a brief about poverty.
The 2010 contest will be confronting earth conservation issues with briefs by Greenpeace and Wwf; and discriminatory policies with Emergency and Lila briefs.
In building up Good50×70, we realized we were following multiple intentions; first of all we wanted to create a database of free communication tools open to any charity; we also achieved our wish to involve the creative community around social topics and, last but not least, we managed to share this messages across the world.
How it works:
An annual contest, confronting seven of the critical issues affecting today’s world.
Seven charities each provide a brief on a global issue. Anyone who wishes can enter one or more posters on any topic that inspires them. The best 30 responses to each brief – as selected by our jury – are collected in a catalogue and exhibited around the world. All the posters entered are supplied to the charities for them to use as potential communication tools through our free database. There is no ‘winner’, unless you count the charities and their message.

To enter the contest as easy as possible from all over the world, we host the competition completely on our website. All you have to do to participate is to upload your poster following the instructions on the “SUBMIT POSTER” page. That’s it!
How absolutely awesome is this?
I LOVE it and hope that all my design commadres jump on board with the project!
Even if you dont consider yourself a designer, have some fun and whip up something for a FANTASTICO cause.
Do it.
Okay, moving on.
My favorite part in any and every project I do is the "design exploration" phase.
I dont really consider myself much of an artist, definitely no Picasso, but I do enjoy sketching and 99% of the time I have one of my many sketch books on hand.So SKETCH THIS___!
(just kidding.)
Here are some that I had done for my Swell Season Gig Poster.
Rough sketches should be, well...rough AND quick but should be tight enough to get your idea /concept across.
Tight comps are when you deal with the handling of type, illustration style, and color choice.
I went with the His and Hers mirror concept.
(I like mustaches for some reason (just not on my boyfriend) and had mucho fun sketching this one. )
Le creeper stache.

I loveee hand rendering my own type.
Often times designers go in and hand draw their designs then set their type with fonts that look forced and unified.
Best bet is to just do it yourself:)

Circles are the HARDEST thing to do draw.
I was excited with how straight this puppy came out.

If anyone has seen the movie ONCE, I think they will appreciate the symbolism in the last two roughs but my professor told me he was over "Damn trees".
Haha...So out with the trees it was!
Lastly, CS5 launched today.
YAYYYYYYYYY.
Interactive Gurus, beware...its pretty legit.
Yes, I watched the live launch in class...nerdy I know.
I highly recommend, if you dont already have CS4 or have a secret stash of dinero, to invest in the new creative suite. It will definitely be worth it.
There are some awesome features, like the interactive addition to Indesign and cool photoshop features that will come in VERY handy.
This post is entirely way to long and I'm probably ruining your perfect 20/20 vision with all this reading...
So, till we talk again.
Le Vie Est Belle.
Monica:)
